The Manual is intended to assist schools in meeting regulatory requirements, but does not cover all hazards, regulations or school responsibilities. It remains the school's responsibility to ensure a safe and healthful environment and to comply with relevant federal, New Jersey, and local regulations. The Manual is updated twice each year to reflect changes in regulations. Through June 2008, twenty-seven updates have been issued. Updates are mailed to all vocational school, high school and junior-senior high school districts in New Jersey. Updates have also been sent to those elementary and middle school districts who have sent a representative to one of the Safe Schools Manual trainings. Additional copies of the Safe Schools Manual may be ordered from the Center for School and Community Health Education (order form). The recent versions of the Manual are split into two volumes. Volume 1 includes all parts of the Manual except the checklists. Volume 2 includes all of the checklists. Safe Schools Manual Supporting Chapters
